The Krampus Klassic is a celebration of the darker side of the holiday season! Is the Krampus a kind soul providing lots of flowy singletrack and open gravel roads inducing endless smiles and joyous giggles? Or is the Krampus evil, forcing chunky technical terrain, annoying road sections, with unbearable winter conditions??? One may only learn after successfully completeing this year's Krampus Klassic.

This, rain, snow, or shine ride will be a wonderful mix of local roads (paved and dirt), class 6 roads, atv trails, and plenty of single track. Mileage will come in between 20 and 30 miles, with roughly 1k of climbing. Route will be heavily dependent on conditions.

FAQs

What's the route like?

Plan for between 25 to 30 miles of mixed surface riding. The weather conditions will have a significant impact on the route overall, but if all works out we will be riding everything from paved roads to technical singletrack.

The current route is just about 28 miles, with 33% paved and 67% off-road and about 1100 feet of climbing. The route will include some truly fun sections of trail in Hopkinton and Henniker, and some of my favorite class 6 roads.

What's the best bike for this ride?

I’m a huge fan of the best bike being the one you’re riding! That’s my way of saying “don’t overthink it” or let the marketing people get to you. There are plenty of bikes that will not be fun to ride on this route, but many more that will be. The perfect bike is the one you feel most comfortable on, while riding a variety of terrain.

My choice would be a hardtail mountain bike, gravel bike with large volume tires, or an ATB. I think this is the sweet spot for Mixed Surface riding. It doesn’t excel at any one particular surface, yet makes its way through all of them with confidence.

Let’s talk about the fun…

This event is meant as a social ride, maximizing on the fun or riding bikes with cool people in cool spots. Take it easy, enjoy the ride, your fellow cyclists, and the fun stops along the way.

Rumor has it that some of the more friendly holiday spirits are planning to set up a hidden rest stop somewhere along the course. They’ve told me there will be plenty of “spirits” to keep you warm and motivated. Make sure you find it before the KRAMPUS does!

These same spirits may even have a gift or two for the good little children who show they know how to maximize the fun level - get dressed up in an ugly sweater, decorate your bike, and be sure to spread the holiday joy along the ride and you may just end up with a special Krampus Klassic gift.

Thanks to our Apres’ Sponsor - Moat Mountain, we will have some tasty beverages at the end of the ride.

We are working on providing some food at the end of the ride as well. Stay tuned for more details.
